Saudi Arabia’s road quality just got a major ranking!
The Kingdom’s road quality rating has risen to 5.7, placing it among the top four in the G20 countries. This impressive improvement comes thanks to the Saudi Roads General Authority, which conducted a massive survey revealing that over 77% of Saudi roads now meet safety standards—well above the 66% target set last year.
This leap in road quality isn’t just by chance
It follows the launch of the Roads Sector Strategy 500 days ago, a plan laser-focused on boosting safety, quality, and managing traffic density. The Saudi Roads General Authority has been hard at work, not only setting policies but also implementing a range of initiatives to elevate road safety and quality across the country.
One standout achievement is the creation of a road safety data center, designed to analyze traffic accidents and develop targeted plans to reduce them
Additionally, a regional office for the International Road Assessment Program (IRAP) was opened to foster international collaboration in traffic safety. The authority even switched up road maintenance contracts, moving to performance-based agreements to ensure higher quality work.
When it comes to road projects, efficiency is the name of the game
Over 90% of projects are being completed on time and to high standards. This success underscores the effectiveness of Saudi Arabia’s road strategy and its commitment to becoming a global logistics hub. Looking ahead, the Roads General Authority has its sights set on even greater achievements, aiming to break into the top six globally for road quality and reduce road deaths to less than five per 100,000 people.
With these ambitious goals, Saudi Arabia is well on its way to setting new standards in road safety and quality!
