The Hanging Village Of Habalah Is So Fascinating That It Should Probably Be The FIRST Place That Tourists Head To When Tourist Visas Are Launched

Sitting right at edge of a cliff face this ancient village remained hidden for many centuries. Located near the city of Abha, Habalah is a must-visit tourist destination in the country.

The only way to reach the city in the past was by a rope or habal in Arabic and hence the name Habalah.

Almost everything had to be brought in to the village from elsewhere. The locals did, however, ingeniously start cultivating some basic crops and even managed to build sturdy houses.

There are many theories as to why the earliest inhabitants of the village chose such a perilous place to settle in, one theory that does the rounds is that the location was chosen so as to evade the invading Ottomans.

Believe it or not, people continued to live here till the 70s after which they were allotted houses in a nearby safer location by the government.

To reach the historic village, one has to take a cable car.

Some of its ancient structures have been converted into restaurants and cafés. Now that’s called a café with a view.

In fact, the area is becoming popular with paragliders who are paragliding of the steep cliffs that surround the village.
