Right after lifting the ban on women driving, this month has been progressing rather rapidly in terms of women’s rights. On Thursday, The Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Salman ordered the Ministry of Interior to draft a law that will penalise penetrator of sexual harassment.

The King ordered the interior ministry to draft the law that fights against sexual harassment within the next 60 days

Much like the lift on women driving ban, the King has ordered for this new law to be drafted and completed in less than three months.

A copy of the royal decree has been made available online

A part of it reads.. “the importance of passing a law that criminalises it [sexual harassment] and outlines the necessary penalties that categorically prohibit such acts and deter anyone who feels tempted to commit them.”

A 2014 study showed that 80% of women in the Kingdom have experienced sexual harassment and the King’s draft entails that any perpetrators can be fined up to SAR 500,000 and/or imprisonment for up to five years.
