Avatar

We’ve all waited months and now it is only a mere five days away until women are able to drive around the Kingdom. As announced last year, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, has lifted the ban on women driving and on June 24 we’ll finally see our strong women take the wheel.

As the countdown begins, let’s also dig into collective information we know about the lift of the ban so far…

A few women have already gotten their driver’s licenses

Barely two weeks ago, the first ten Saudi women received their driver’s licenses after exchanging their previous international ones. The news made headlines and many congratulated these women on social media.

The first European living in Saudi also got her driver’s license

Resident Finnish blogger, Laura Alho, of the Kingdom’s first travel blog ‘Blue Abaya’ happily got her license after completing a test-drive.

Uber has launched a direct portal for any women looking to work for them

Car-hailing app, Uber, recently announced the launch of Masaruky (“your path” in Arabic). Masaruky is the new registration portal for Saudi women who are interested in driving for Uber once the ban is lifted.

The initiative is aligned with the Kingdom and Crown Prince MBS’ Vision 2030, helping increase women’s inclusion in the workforce.

Women even have the choice to drive motorcycles, if they wish

The General Directorate of Traffic announced six months ago that women in Saudi Arabia will now also be allowed to drive trucks and motorcycles.
