H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan established the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve. Moreover, it is the first area in Abu Dhabi designated for protection by law. It was once a coastal salt flat (sabkha) and now it flourished into natural and man-made lakes that enable many of Abu Dhabi’s species to thrive. While in 2018, the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas placed the reverse on its list. Therefore making it the first site in Abu Dhabi to have this recognition.

In 1996, the late founding father H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan began constructing the mosque. Over the span of 11 years, construction took place. Moreover, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque opened in December 20, 2007. The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the LARGEST mosque in the UAE and third largest in the world.

He served as the UAE President since the formation of the nation on December 2, 1971 until he passed away in 2004. Additionally, he served as the Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi from 1966 to 2004.

Another fact of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, he was born in the city of Al Ain. Moreover, he was the youngest of the 4 sons of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, from 1922 to 1926.
