The First Emirati Astronaut Is Being Sent To The Moon!

In a historic announcement at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, the UAE revealed its participation in the development of a crucial module on NASA’s Lunar Gateway Station. Moreover, the UAE President H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Ruler of Dubai, announced that they’ll be sending the first Emirati astronaut to the moon during this project.

In addition to sending the first Emirati astronaut into lunar orbit, the UAE announced so much more!

Also, H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed underscored the significance of this momentous achievement for the nation’s space aspirations. The announcement ceremony took place at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. This is where the UAE President announced the UAE’s collaboration with the USA, Japan, Canada, and the European Union. Additionally, this marks a pivotal step in reinforcing the UAE’s global presence in Space Science and Technology.

The UAE’s involvement in the Lunar Gateway marks a significant milestone in international space collaboration. With a permanent seat in the program, the UAE will contribute scientifically to the largest lunar and space exploration initiative. The nation’s commitment to sending the first Emirati astronaut to the Moon and gaining priority access to advanced scientific and engineering data positions it as a leader in the global space community.

The UAE announced its role in the project and the key details of NASA’s Lunar Gateway Station

The UAE’s role in the project involves the development of the Crew and Science Airlock module. This is a critical component for ensuring astronaut safety during missions to the Moon’s surface. Moreover, this unit will serve as the entry and exit point for astronauts traveling to and from the Lunar Gateway Station. The Emirates Airlock, with dimensions of 10 meters in length, 4 meters in width, and a weight of 10 tonnes, will play a vital role in the success of the Lunar Gateway Station.

The project, in collaboration with NASA, signifies humanity’s renewed ambition to return to the Moon after more than fifty years. Hence, setting the stage for future missions to Mars. The MBRSC will oversee the management and operation of the Airlock, ensuring its effectiveness as part of the Gateway.
