After launching the application process in June, the UAE began accepting proposals for gaming licenses. An American giant has decided to explore the opportunity.

The company’s CEO Bill Hornbuckle made the announcement during the Skift Global Forum 2024.

The company is awaiting federal approval in Abu Dhabi, as each emirate has the power to grant or deny gaming operations. The UAE has established a regulatory gaming commission; however, under current laws, gaming is not legal.

“I hope and believe this year we’ll understand more about Abu Dhabi and the federal mandate and go from there,” said Hornbuckle.

The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) of the UAE opened proposals for gaming licenses in July. The process starts with a preliminary intake form and screening, and those who pass can then apply for a casino license.

Hornbuckle emphasized that MGM will not enter Abu Dhabi without a casino license, saying, “That’s the business MGM is in.”

MGM Resorts also plans to build a Las Vegas inspired sphere in Dubai. It will be located on The Island, a mega project aiming to create an island version inspired by the city of Las Vegas.
