REVEALED: Here’s Why People Jumped From The 77th Floor Of A Hotel In Dubai
Yesterday, the internet was abuzz about gliders who leaped from 300 metres up, surprising swimmers chilling at the infinity pool in the Address Beach Resort. The stunt got Dubai-aites curious and we did a deep dive to find out more.
The stunt was part of the UAE Hike and Fly International championship- an ambitious attempt to bring paraglider adventure-racing to the skyscrapers of Dubai
Twenty-five of the world’s best hike-and-fly racers were invited to take part in the competition, which kicked off on Sunday, 21 November. The men-only event saw a host of participants including stars like Chrigel Maurer, Aaron Durogati and Antoine Girard.
The first task on Sunday, was to run to the top of the 77-storey of the Address Beach Resort, launching from the top and then running back to the hotel
The circuit was expected to take less than an hour. However, after pilots saw the launch on the top of the hotel for the first time on Saturday the rules were changed. So they did not have to fly to score.

Pilots took to Instagram to share pictures and footage of the launch platform which was a collection of flat planks above a sheer 300m vertical drop

However, organizers quickly responded to the pilots’ reactions saying the plank was actually unfinished. They said it would be completed with more planks and astroturf, to create a smooth, flat take-off area.
Ultimately, the flying part of the hike-and-fly task was made non-mandatory. Instead, pilots were asked to complete the foot-race with their hike-and-fly equipment.
A few pilots launched for the fun of it and thankfully it was safe!
