A Dubai Police officer stepped in and saved an Arab mother from a 100-day prison sentence.
The mother of a seven-month-old baby owed AED10,000 and despite the best efforts of her family, she could not pay.
The woman’s husband had AED100 to pay towards fine – a tiny percentage of the full price, he allegedly tried to raise the funds, but couldn’t come up with the full amount.
Lieutenant Abdul Hadi Al Hammadi, an officer at the Rashidiya police station stepped in and paid the fine, on the day she would have gone to prison according to the Khaleej Times.
The woman was facing jail due to a financial issue. The family were desperate on the day of the hearing and the officer was moved by their situation.
The officer does not expect to be reimbursed, according to reports.
“I told him to keep it a secret, but wondered how the media got to know about it. I think it as our duty in the UAE to help people who need care and attention,” the police officer said according to the report.
