An Emirati pilot on an Emirates plane is on trial for assaulting an air-stewardess and threatening to blow up a plane.
The off-duty pilot was on a flight from Madrid to Dubai when the incident took place, according to Gulf News.
Before departure, the Emirati man allegedly asked a Romanian stewardess if smoking was prohibited on board, when she responded negatively he proceeded to curse fellow fliers, insult the stewardess and take alcohol without permission of the cabin crew.
After the off-duty pilot allegedly began using foul language, crew attempted to restrain him, which resulted in the man becoming increasingly agitated and aggressive. At this point he threatened to blow up the plane. According to the stewardess he petrified other passengers and alleged he was carrying explosives.
In his violent tirade, he damaged the TV screen on the seat in front of him and the nearest window and verbally threatened the life of the air stewardess.
Dubai Police were waiting to apprehend the man on arrival in Dubai.
He pleaded guilty and has been charged with rowdy behaviour, getting drunk, insulting crew members, AED10,000 worth of damage and threatening the safety of the aircraft and passengers on board.
This case is ongoing.
