A newly opened Al Wasl cafe is under fire after sharing footage of a cheetah on its premises.
(This is the same new spot that Drake shouted out on his Insta stories, saying he just loved the juices there – when it hadn’t even opened).
And now the cafe has been officially reprimanded by UAE authorities responsible for animal welfare, according to Gulf News.
The cafe even posted some videos of the incident, however they’ve been removed amid the online backlash.
According to the owner, the incident was not a promotional stunt. The cafe was not opened to the public at the time when the owner happened to see a car parked nearby containing a cheetah. In her excitement, the owner of the cafe invited the owner of the cheetah and the cheetah into the cafe. She has since apologised for the incident according to the Gulf News report, she claimed she was unaware of the UAE’s exotic pet laws.
(At the beginning of 2017, the UAE government passed a bill banning the unlicenced possession of exotic animals, which can mean imprisonment and attract fines of up to AED700,000. The UAE authorities have urged residents to report any cases of exotic animals being kept as pets. )
