The Emirates Mars Mission plans to make a Martian city in the Dubai desert and send a probe called ‘Hope’ on a mission to planet Mars by the year 2021

The UAE Space Agency has set a goal by 2021 for a spacecraft to have reached Mars by 2021 to coincide with the day the United Arab Emirates was founded, fifty years ago.

Work is currently underway to ensure that the rocket sets off from Earth in July 2020 (that’s five months from now!)

You may think launching a rocket into space with aims to reach a certain time would be simple, but in fact, many things could hinder it since the Earth and Mars orbit the Sun at different rates.

So, intricate planning and development within the mission are CRUCIAL, because there’s only one chance at achieving this goal.

Sharaf shared the strategies by the MBRSC behind these missions

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), founded in 2006, has been making strides to ensure that the Emirati youth are more involved in space science and research and encouraging them to contribute to humanity, as requested by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum himself.

There are more than 200 employees currently working at the centre, on this mission and 100% of them are Emiratis, with a significant percentage of those involving women in this field.

Sharaf also discusses in this podcast the real vision of the UAE’s leaders as to why the mission to Mars has been put in place, and it’s much more than just reaching the planet.
