The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced, earlier this week, that major reforms are coming to the expat employment rules and regulations in order to improve contractual relationships between employers and employees.
A major change includes the abolishment of the sponsorship (kafala) system that has existed for more than seven decades
The reform will take effect from March 14, 2021 and it allows foreign employees to change jobs and/or leave the Kingdom without permission from their sponsors.
