On Tuesday, The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced the first case of Monkeypox in the UAE.
The ministry explained that the first case was detected in a 29-year-old woman who arrived from West Africa, noting that she is receiving the necessary medical care.
UAE health authorities are taking all necessary measures, including investigation, examination of contacts, and monitoring their health. It has called on people to obtain information only from official sources and to avoid spreading rumours and false information. The Ministry also outlined the key information regarding prevention and treatment.
MOHAP outlined the key ways to prevent the spread of the virus.
MoHAP_UAE is cooperating with health authorities to implement an epidemiological surveillance system following the highest global practices, to ensure sustainable community protection, rapid detection and limited spread of communicable diseases in the UAE including monkeypox.
Dubai Health Authority (DHA), along with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health issued circulars to health facilities to step up their monitoring of the monkeypox virus, take precautionary measures and protect against the potential spread of the virus.
A few countries already have confirmed or suspected cases of the disease such as Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, the United States, Canada, Australia and more, according to Reuters.
MoHAP is proactively investigating and closely monitoring any suspect cases.
