The incident in France this week where police officers forced a women to remove her burkini on a public beach triggered off a global debate on the matter. Not least, as many pointed out, the difference between rules and attitudes in various countries. In Dubai, no rule is enforced, on the beaches here is it’s equally common and acceptable to wear a burkini as it is a bikini.Â
People in Dubai reacted in various ways, some poking fun at the incident and others disgusted with the treatment of this lady.Â
Should armed police be telling anyone what they can and can’t wear?! The world has gone mad ???? #burkini

#Burkini was invented in Australia & was designed to allow Muslim women to participate in Australian culture https://t.co/52Z9Ko3tbK

Forcing women to remove #Burkini is no different to forcing women into abayas using emotional or physical abuse.

Ridiculous. No one should dictate a woman what to wear & not to wear. Oppression of a different kind, this. #burkini pic.twitter.com/yQVFsVZurT

It is so pathetic that a piece of cloth indicates whether one qualifies to become human. #burkini #france
