We all know that finding fresh fruit and veg in Dubai can be a nightmare. You’ll trawl through your local supermarket, digging through half rotten tomatoes and semi-mouldy oranges just to find one that’s edible.
So, here are our five favourite really fresh fruit and veg spots (not a brown banana or sprouting onion in sight).
For proper produce, this place is your best bet. It’s packed to the brim with organic veggies, local eggs, raw honey and so much more. Plus, everything is delivered from local farms daily, so you won’t find much fresher.
If you haven’t quite had your fill in-store, head over to the Ripe Food & Craft Market in Zabeel Park (Friday 9am to 5pm, until the end of February), where you can assemble your own box of veggies at a set price…or, if Fridays don’t suit head to Al Barsha every Saturday evening from 4pm to 9pm. If you haven’t already, it’s well worth checking out.
This market is fiercely proud of it’s locally sourced, freshly picked organic produce – and so it should be. It’s where serious, in-the-know, health junkies stock up on their weekly greens. Run by the guys who brought us Baker & Spice, they deliver produce straight from the farm, cutting out the supermarket and making everything super affordable.
When? Every Friday at Jumeirah Etihad Towers, from 8am – 1pm
This absolute gem of a shop is dedicated entirely to the sale of organic produce. They’re massively involved in the growing process and even invite customers to join them on farm visits to learn how their fresh fruit and veg is produced (something that we’ve often wondered about in Dubai – we’re thinking ‘world’s biggest greenhouse’).
Get in touch and they’ll help you make your own mixed box. They’ll even deliver it. Greenheart opens daily from 11.30am to 5pm, except Fridays.
OK, so we felt we had to include at least one supermarket. As they go, the Park ‘N’ Shop in TECOM is (surprisingly) one of the best places we’ve visited for fresh fruit and veg. It gets extra points because it’s open until 11pm, unlike a lot of speciality stores. This means it’s perfect for that last minute dinner-party dash when you’ve forgotten the onions….Not that we did that.
When? Open 7am – 11pm
This store offers home delivery for an absolutely mahooosive range of organic products. We’re talking everything from baby teething wafers (apparently that’s a thing) and fresh coconut ice cream to organic beef and lamb sausages. It’s getting us hungry just thinking about it.
They deliver seven days a week and their store in TECOM has a great little organic café (be sure to try the spelt salad, it comes with spelt grains, sundried tomatoes, pickles, cucumber and a nice amount of avo…our personal favourite!).
When? Open 8am – 9pm
