Dubai is set to implement stricter penalties for vehicle impounds starting July 6. The new decree amendments, issued by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aim to promote responsible driving behaviours and enhance traffic safety.

The penalties for vehicle impounds have fines ranging from AED10,000 to AED100,000 to promote safe driving

1. Under the new regulations, individuals will face a fine of AED10,000 to release vehicles impounded for the following offences:

    • Unauthorised modifications to the vehicle to increase speed or noise
    • Evading police officers
    • Driving recklessly or in a manner that compromises the safety of others

2. Driving a recreational motorcycle on paved roads will now result in a fine of AED50,000 to release impounded vehicles.

3. Participating in a road race without prior permission from the police will now result in a fine of AED100,000 to release impounded vehicles.

In addition to the revised penalties, Dubai is implementing several new measures to further reinforce traffic safety

  • Non-UAE Nationals jumping a red light in a heavy vehicle will be administratively deported from the UAE.
  • Vehicles with traffic fines exceeding AED6,000 will be impounded until all fines are settled.
  • Vehicles will be impounded when the driver’s license is more than 3 months past its expiry, without any valid reason.
  • A fine of AED50 per day will be charged to owners who have not claimed their vehicle after the expiry of its impound period.

Dubai’s implementation of stricter penalties for vehicle impounds, alongside comprehensive measures to enhance traffic safety, demonstrates its unwavering commitment to protecting the well-being of all road users. By deterring dangerous practices, promoting responsible driving, and enforcing penalties, the city aims to create an environment where individuals can confidently navigate the streets, ensuring a safer and more harmonious community for all.
