Dubai Is Launching Flying Taxis Sooner Than You Expect

Just when you thought Dubai couldn’t get any cooler, well, hold on tight because they’re launching flying taxis sooner than you expect! Buckle up for a futuristic ride through the city’s skyline…

Dubai’s flying taxis are launching in 2026!

Yup, you read that right. According to Duncan Walker, the CEO of a London-based company tasked with building Dubai’s first vertiport, Dubai is aiming to launch a fully operational flying taxi service by that time.

The Emirate is set to become the world’s pioneer in establishing a network of vertiports dedicated to permanent air taxi services

At the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport organized by the RTA, Walker shared that during peak hours, the usual DXB to Palm Jumeirah commute will be cut down from 45 to about 16 minutes. This includes the time spent at the vertiport.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, along with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, were presented with a vertiport model by Mattar Al Tayer, who serves as the RTA director general and chairman of the board of executive directors.

The flying taxi will have a seat for a pilot and four passengers

Moreover, four landing sites are planned to be built near Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Downtown, and Dubai Marina.

And as announced earlier, the aerial taxis are set to achieve top speeds of 300kmph and cover a maximum range of 241km. In addition to time savings compared to land transport, these flying taxis offer several advantages, including their environmentally friendly, zero-carbon operational missions, and their potential to alleviate ground congestion.

Not only that, but self-driving taxis are hitting Dubai’s streets very soon…

As stated by the RTA, five driverless taxis are launching on on the first week of October to continue testing. Passengers won’t be traveling using the driverless taxi vehicles until December.

So, and if that doesn’t demonstrate Dubai’s commitment to cutting-edge technology, then we don’t know what does!
