Flydubai’s Boeing 737 MAX 9 Fleet Will Continue Operations Following Alaska Airlines Incident

The videos of the Alaska Airlines flight ⁠AS1282 have gone viral the past couple of days. Chances are, you’ve seen the video floating on the internet but here are the deets!

The Alaska Airlines flight in question departed Portland at 17:06 local time on January 6, inbound for Ontario. Shortly after takeoff, the exit door towards the end of the aircraft separated from the fuselage, leading to an emergency landing. Thankfully, no one was injured!⁠

Following the Alaska Airlines incident on flight AS1282, flydubai stated that their fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 9 will continue operations as normal⁠

The FAA released a statement imposing the “temporary grounding of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft operated by US airlines or in US territory.”⁠

In addition, the General Civil Aviation Authority stated that “none of the national companies operating in the UAE are affected by the technical defect that was reported on a Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft belonging to an American company.”

A flydubai spokesperson issued a statement for Lovin Dubai regarding the incident

Following The Emergency Airworthiness Directive (EAD) issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on 06 January 2024, we can confirm that the three Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft in our fleet are not affected. flydubai operates Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft with a deactivated mid-aft exit door configuration which is not referenced in the directive. ⁠
