This will be music to your ears if you love eating out, but hate forking out additional dirhams for bottled water.
From 2020, restaurants in Dubai will have to offer filtered tap water, a move which will cut down on waste, while also offering customers a pocket-friendly drink option.
Dubai Municipality will release a new Dubai Food Plan in 2020 and it will include this addition, according to The National.
The restaurants will be permitted to decide whether or not to charge for filtered water, according to the report.
The Dubai Food Code was established in 2013 to provide a high level of protection to human life and health and to protect the interests of the consumers, by safeguarding all aspects of food and drink consumption in the city. This will be the first time tap water has been addressed in the report.
It’s worth noting, the inclusion does not mean it has been passed by law. However, the recommendation should encourage eateries to stock filtered water, and therefore should it be brought into law in future, the transition for restaurants will be smoother, according to the report.
