A top official has said that Dubai Police’s Search and Rescue Department have responded to 86 cases of children locked in vehicles in the first nine months of this year. This is a decrease of 90, when compared to last year.

Of the 86 children, 95% of these were under the age of five.  In addition to this, there were also 92 cases of children getting stuck in elevators or rooms. The total number of children rescued so far in 2016 is 365, according to Gulf News.

“Parents should never leave their young children unattended in a car, even for a few minutes. Children like to imitate their parents, and they will play around and they can lock themselves in or, even worse, move the car,”

Lt Col Ahmad Burqibah, deputy director of the Search and Rescue Department

“While waiting for rescue to arrive, parents should keep talking to the child and keep them calm. If the children are too young or unable to open the door they should ask them to sit in a place, away from the door, until help arrives,”

Lt Col Ahmad Burqibah, deputy director of the Search and Rescue Department
