Burj Khalifa And Other UAE Landmarks Lit Up In Honour Of The Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed On Friday

On Friday 11 October 2019, the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his tremendous efforts in making peace with the country’s long-time foe, Eritrea in 2018.

The world had shown immense support to the PM for his victory and posted a number of congratulatory messages, stating all the achievements that made him a deserving recipient of the Nobel Prize.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi went a step further and expressed their homage to PM Abiy Ahmed by lighting up landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and a number of landmarks in Abu Dhabi such as the Sheikh Zayed Bridge.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also congratulated the laureate on his honourable achievement

HH Sheikh Mohammed shared kind words for Ethiopian leader and mentioned that he is a ‘well-respected leader among UAE citizens’.

PM Abiy Ahmed is hoping that with him winning the Nobel Peace Prize, other leaders in Africa take it positively and work on the peace-building in the continent

The Nobel Prize comes along with a diploma, medal, and cash award that sums up to AED 4 million 

These landmarks in Abu Dhabi also lit up in the colours of the Ethiopian flag in tribute to the Ethiopian laureate
