Mark Zuckerburg, the CEO of Facebook made the first move toward stepping away from the Facebook Cambridge Analytica privacy scandals yesterday.
The big announcement?
Facebook is going up against the likes of Match and Bumble and will soon provide its own dating service. The new development was made at Facebook’s annual F8 developers conference in California on Tuesday.
But Zuckerburg’s affirmation that this app is ‘committed to building meaningful relationships’ may be the blurred line the app needs for the go ahead.
Right now Tinder and Happn are available as they promote ways of discovering new people, rather than concentrating on the dating aspect.
And in a city like Dubai, with majority expats, meeting new people and developing relationships is an important part of making a life here.
Since the announcement on Tuesday, shares in Match.com, a popular international dating site, dropped by an incredible 22%. And with Zuck’s known history for diving into new social apps head first… (Instagram, WhatsApp and Tinder to name a few) Facebook could crush all other apps in the field, so it’s only fair residents in the UAE get to try it too…right?!
Facebook and date…Faith?! Yeah, that’s a stretch…
