“His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Robert Mugabe was initially applauded for his role in fighting for Africa’s independence against the ruling party at that time

The former president ruled Zimbabwe up to almost four decades, a total of 37 years in power

In November 2017 after being ousted in a military takeover, Robert Mugabe was placed under house arrest and forced by his political party, ZANU-PF, to step down and resign as the president.

Since then Mugabe’s health had been heading in a downward spiral and he sought treatment in Singapore.
