The UAE public is being reminded about online fundraising, which can attract fines of up to AED500,000.

The UAE Attorney General, Dr Hamid Al Shamsi, has reiterated the laws regarding donations made to unverified sources through social media sites.

According to Dr Shamsi, this crime may prove to be dangerous – with unverified charities that could lead to illegal activities such as funding terrorism.

Under the Federal Law on Combating Cybercrimes, the offender shall face a prison terms of up to three years

And a fine not less than Dh250,000 and not in excess of Dh500,000 or either of these two penalties.

Dr Shamsi also said: “such cases harm the UAE whose humanitarian organisations set a good example of humanitarian work and through legal channel.”

Stay on high alert everyone.
