The Global Peace Index is an annual rating that attempts to rank regions and countries based on peacefulness.

This year, the UAE ranked as the third most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa following Qatar and Kuwait who ranked first and second in the region. The MENA region accounts for 20 countries in total.  

The world ranked 0.28% more peaceful than last year

163 countries were included and as a whole the world ranks slightly more peaceful than last year. 

Of the 163 countries the UAE placed 65th.

Syria, who placed 65th last year is now the least peaceful country in the world. And the study showed the MENA region as the least peaceful region in the world. 

Iceland retained the top spot as the most peaceful country in the world.
