The Uber-Careem acquisition is probably one of the most promising things for the tech industry in THIS region ever to witness.
As you might have heard, car-hailing giant Uber announced its purchase of Dubai-based Careem, for a whopping AED11 billion.
Many see this is as an incredible success story- especially seeing that it was a startup started in Dubai not too long ago- sparking inspiration to other aspiring entrepreneurs.

On Tuesday, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed reacted to the Uber-Careem deal by discussing the initiative years back to bring an Internet and e-commerce city in Dubai’s desert.
He commended the success stories of not just Careem but Souq too, which was acquired by online retailing company Amazon.
In 1999, many people questioned our idea to establish Dubai Internet City in the desert. Two years ago, Amazon acquired the multi-billion dirham Souq and today, Uber acquired Careem for Dh11 billion. These giant companies flourished from the “desert” of Dubai.
