Within the space of a week, a call from a disgruntled citizen to a local Ajman radio station, became the inspiration behind an AED11billion social assistance fund.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was the driving force behind the urgent action, and in no other country in the world would this happen.

The story grabbed headlines last week, after a radio presenter in Ajman criticised a caller and was immediately suspended from his work.

Emirati citizen Ali Al Mazrouei had made contact with the station to discuss  inflation, its impact on the standard of living for senior citizens and his difficult financial situation.

Try and imagine the ruler of any country stepping in to help a disgruntled citizen in this way…

On the day the story broke, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai was at the Arab Media Forum at the Souk Madinat.

Within 24 hours, Dubai’s ruler guaranteed to provide a decent life for the man and his family.

Within seven days, the man was invited to speak at a UAE cabinet meeting, where a plan to support low-income citizens was presented. At that meeting on Sunday, an AED11 billion social assistance program was approved by HH Sheikh Mohammed and Al Mazrouei was offered a position as a social researcher in the ministry.

HH Sheikh Mohammed was at the Arab Media Forum with visiting dignitaries when the story broke

Within 24 hours, HH Sheikh Mohammed had intervened

He ‘immediately facilitated’ the needs of the caller

And called for urgent action

Now, an AED11billion programme has been funded

“The UAE government will move swiftly to support any citizen in need

And Ali Al Mazrouei has been appointed as a social researcher in the ministry

This wouldn’t happen anywhere else

The idea that the ruler of a country would immediately react to a call like this is hard to believe. 

And how incredible that a radio call from a disgruntled citizen has turned into an AED11billion action and commitment from HH Sheikh Mohammed.

This singular story is the perfect example of how citizens will always benefit when the right leadership is in place.
