SOUND ON: Director Of The Dubai Press Clubs Discusses All The Unanswered Questions About The ‘Social Media Influencer Diploma’

Avatar

It’s no secret that the power of social media has taken over the world, and Dubai is not one to hinder that.

The city supports and welcomes innovation so much- that after the Emirate saw the rise and power of social media influencers as new types of brands and a new form of marketing, it has decided to allow for a university degree in ‘social media influencing.’ That should come to no surprise since Dubai is all about startups, entrepreneurship and allowing for better methods to business developments: and this is where social media falls in.

Maitha Buhumaid, the Director of the Dubai Press Club, sat down with Richard Fitzgerald (the host of the DUBAI WORKS business podcast) via online chat to discuss the role of influencers in modern media, the answers everyone wants to hear about this ‘social media influencer’ degree and what other initiatives the Dubai Press Club are involved with.

Only in Dubai: you can get accredited for your social media skills

Residents were surprised when the announcement of the Social Media Influencers Diploma Programme came about, surely The Dubai Press Club (DPC) knew this would be the initial reaction.

But if you think about it, I mean think about it, it makes sense why this would be the region’s first accredited diploma programme for social media influencers. After all, Dubai has been home to MANY influencers from the inception of Instagram as MORE than just a photo-sharing platform.

Dubai has influencers in all sectors of branding: music, travel, empowerment, comedy, beauty, fashion, tech- the list seems never-ending. From Money Kicks to MoVlogs, both garnering millions of views on YouTube, and beauty giants like The Hala (based in Dubai)- as well as the events that take place in the Emirate on an almost daily basis. Social media and its influencers are more than welcome in Dubai, and it’s pretty fascinating to see that openness take place in a Middle-Eastern country.
