Gulf Fall Out: What Travellers Need To Know So Far

Avatar

Rules for travelling have been changed with the closure of Qatar borders to Saudi as well as the closure of airspace for Qatar to Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain.

Many questions are being asked, so here’s what we know so far.

Flights

Flights from the UAE to Qatar will be indefinitely suspended – with Etihad announcing it will be suspending all flights to Qatar effective tomorrow. (Passengers who have bought tickets will be entitled to refunds).

Emirates has issued a statement following suit – you can see the story here.

FlyDubai has reportedly cancelled flights to Qatar too.

Air Arabia, Saudia, and Gulf Air have also released notification that they will be ceasing operations to Qatar.

Qatar Airways is in the process of redirecting and diverting all its flights to abide by the airspace rules – as it can no longer fly over or into Saudi Arabia or the UAE. The airline has announced it will be suspending all flights to UAE, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain effective as of midnight June 6. Anyone booked on Qatar Airways flights from the UAE can contact the airline to rebook on codesharing partners.

According to the UAE Government, all ‘Qatari means of transport’ will not be allowed to cross UAE borders.

Anyone transiting through Qatar to the UAE can at present do so (depending on the airline), however this will likely change shortly.

Borders

Land, sea and air borders have been closed, meaning the roads to Qatar through Saudi have been shut.

This means Qatar’s imports will be severely limited.

Nationals

Emirati nationals are banned from travelling to or through Qatar as of today.

Qatari nationals have 14 days to leave the UAE.

Diplomats of both countries have been given 48 hours to leave the relevant nations.
