Careem And Uber Are All Set To Hire Female Drivers In Saudi Arabia

The two biggest ride-hailing applications in Saudi Arabia, have made their support to women’s driving clear ever since the decade’s old ban was lifted.

According to CNN, Uber and Careem have started recruiting female drivers.

In Saudi Arabia, a majority of customers for the two companies comprise of females. The figures stand at around 70% for Careem and 80% for Uber.

Careem has already certified hundreds of women after launching a series of 90-minute training across Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar. For now, they have mostly targeted women who have driving licenses abroad.

The sessions have taught the women on how to use the app, customer service techniques and Saudi road laws.

Abdullah Elyas, co-founder of Careem, has said that they have already received thousands of applications from women willing to join.

On the other hand, Uber has plans to open “one-stop shop” facilities that will be dedicated to recruiting female drivers.

Zeid Hreish, general manager of Uber in Saudi Arabia has said: “We will partner up with necessary stakeholders to facilitate the paperwork, training access, and access to vehicles, including access to driving schools run by third-party partners.”

Careem has made it clear that they plan to have 10,000 female drivers by June. However, they have also mentioned that they will limit the female driver option to female riders or families.
