7 Things To Know About The Upcoming ‘Entertainment City’ Al- Qiddiyah Near Riyadh

We’re sure you’ve all heard of the Qiddiya project by now. It’s a part of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman’s aims to boost the Kingdom’s economy. One way of boosting Saudi’s economy and being less-dependent on oil, is to put more towards the entertainment sector. 

The Qiddiya Project will be home to the world-renowned Six Flags theme park, but it doesn’t end there. Qiddiya is also set to become a futuristic; entertainment, cultural and sports city some 40km west of Riyadh. 

Here are 10 things you should know ahead of Qiddiya’s completion:

1. King Salman is patronising its launch on Wednesday (April 25)

According to AME Info, Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques King Salman will inaugurate the project’s construction. 

2. The Qiddiya Project will stretch at over 334km

3. The first phase is set to complete by 2022

…All of that in just four years!

4. It will be beneficial in more ways than one towards Vision 2030 and the economy 

 Qiddiya will provide thousands of jobs for both men and women and bring in tourists from neighbouring countries and the West.

5. It will have six MAJOR components

Saudi Gazette reports that Al-Qiddiya will have a fun city, car and cycle courses, sports facilities, water and ice games, natural attractions and heritage events.

6. Expect to see cafes, restaurants, hotels and even real estate projects in Al-Qiddiyah

7. The US-based Six Flags theme park will be based in Al-Qiddiyah

Say goodbye to booking U.S. flights because the well-known American theme park, Six Flags, is coming to Saudi and will be situated in Qiddiyah.
