Soup Is The Second Most Searched Ramadan Dish In The UAE

Avatar

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and fasting from dawn to sunset is a ritual during this period. Many expats are unaware of the significance of this month and therefore turn to search giant Google for answers, while those who have better knowledge use the platform to research other aspects of Ramadan. Between the shorter working hours, Iftars and Suhours, this is what UAE is searching this Ramadan. Thank you Google Trends.

There were many Ramadan-related questions asked. We’re pretty sure these three were expat queries…

1. What is the first day of Ramadan?

Remember our announcement last week? If not, this is what we told you.

2. What is the response to Ramadan Kareem?

3. What are the official working hours in the private sector during Ramadan?

Work hours are generally shortened by two hours (so that’s 9am to 4pm), but this rule may not apply to all industries. Here is what you can do with those two extra hours you get each day.

The most popular foods at Iftar seem to be…

1. Dates

2. Soups

Who doesn’t love a bowl of harira soup?

3. Ramadan desserts

Bring on the baklava and umm ali!

It’s a month for giving, so people searched these charities…

1. (and 2.) The Red Crescent and orphans

The UAE affiliate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, it works to support the official authorities in peacetime and wartime. Residents can contribute in several ways, including sponsoring an orphan, poor family or a specific project. Donations are also welcome.

3. Dubai Cares

Launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, the organisation aims to improve children’s access to quality primary education in developing countries.

TV seems to be a favourite pastime. The three popular series are…

1. Ramez Beylaab bil Naar

2. Maamoun wa Shorkaa’oh

3. Al Qaysar
