2018: Looking Back On The Highs And Lows Of This Year

Avatar

Ah, 2018, you’ve been interesting.

With some real highlights, and some big stories, it’s been an unforgettable year.

It started with a bang, (albeit without fireworks) at the Burj Khalifa, and rolled on through.

It was the Year of Zayed, and a fabulous hologram of the Father of the Nation was created

2019 will be the Year of Tolerance, it has been announced.

It was the year of the #InMyFeelingsChallenge

It was a World Cup year, and Dubai celebrated in style…

Though there was the occasional mishap.

It was also the year of the Ellie Holman scandal – the woman who accused the UAE of detaining her for ‘drinking a glass of wine’

When in fact, she had an expired passport, took photos in prohibited areas and shouted at a customs officer.

And the tourist who racked up AED170,000 worth of fines in a rented Lamborghini

(He did manage to strike a deal with the Dubai Police and pay less than that in the end)

XDubai wake-surfed through Madinat Jumeirah

It’s been a huge year, with highs and lows, and of course – PLENTY of events

And 2019 promises just as much fun, already with dozens of event rolling out – RedFest, Jazz Fest, George Ezra performing in January, along with Dubai Shopping Festival already underway.

Happy New Year, and keep on smiling Dubai!
