We were all at home. Buying masks and gloves and requesting permits to make a quick trip to the supermarket. It was a tough couple of months. Since March 2020, UAE residents felt like they were in a movie or a Black Mirror episode.

The once hustling and bustling emirate of Dubai got quiet. Really quiet. Coronavirus was new and nobody knew what it entails. It started with one family visiting Dubai from abroad and suddenly we all knew someone who tested positive. The unprecedented times are now behind us but it’s definitely something we can all learn from. The pandemic isn’t over but the UAE handled the tough times really well.

Because the early stage of the pandemic felt like a movie, Dubai Media Office and Discovery released a documentary called “COVID 19: Dubai”

The documentary will be shown on May 7 and 14 on Discovery at 10pm and from mid-May on discovery+, in a branded environment on Jawwy TV and STARZPLAY

Viewers can also follow the action on Discovery’s Facebook @DiscoveryChannelArabia.

Remember when a PCR test cost like AED400? We’ve come a long way! Based on the trailer, we can assume what we could expect from the 2 part documentary. Doctors didn’t have any prior data on the virus or how to treat it. Patients were, unfortunately, placed in ICUs. The medical field was trying and trying but they had no virus to relate to, to treat patients.

The lockdown started with just 3 days and soon everybody had to stay at home for weeks. Small businesses could not survive and companies had to shut down at a day’s notice. Employees wondered if they had jobs after this and the harsh reality is that many lost theirs in fact.

Not just businesses, but schools as well. Students had to learn through a screen which was quite an adjustment. The public began adapting to the new normal as the pandemic started to lift. Capacities started to increase, and the regulations began to ease.
