As Roger Federer Retires Tweetizens Remember His Best Dubai Moments
It’s the end of an era.
The GOAT of the game of tennis is putting down his racket (for grand slams and tours) and has broken hearts overnight with the news. At the age of 41, Roger Federer announced his retirement owing to physical limitations caused by previous injuries.
While it sometimes feels like it went by in 24 hours, it has also been so deep and magical that it seems as if I’ve already lived a full life time.
Federer has also announced in his heartfelt note addressed to his ‘tennis family and beyond’, that The Laver Cup in London next week would be his final ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) event.
It goes without saying that the player has had several cute (and victorious!) moments in Dubai, and the Tweeple of Dubai have used the occasion to share some, keep scrolling to read!

4. A gracious player- on and off the court!
The first time I attended a Roger Federer press conference was in 2013 in Dubai. He’s such a gentleman! For me he’s #theGOAT pic.twitter.com/klqPYLRm4W

3. When you’re so charming that even the press can’t resist
A good time for #Federer to retire from tennis? Could there be? The world of sport is less beautiful. This perhaps is the only pic where I’m in the same frame as #RogerFederer His pressers were generous. Especially in smaller stops, like where this pic was taken, in Dubai… #ATP pic.twitter.com/RHPPfcOopm

2. For many Federer fans, Dubai was the first spot where they could watch Federer live
Saddened to read Federer’s retirement letter. Fortunate to have watched so many Federer matches, including in person at a match in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. https://t.co/rZIJjaysRy

1. This funny story from Ben Jacobs, live commentator of the 2012 Dubai Championship shows how witty Federer can be!
I had no idea why to begin with, then remembered the Swiss flag on my cheek. I instinctively tried to rub it off. Then Federer came in watching me frantically cleaning my face, & all he sees is this smudged, desecrated flag & goes, “Oh, I guess you wanted Andy to win then!” 😂
