Aun and Farwa got engaged to each other on December 20 and had big plans for their upcoming wedding. They started all their preparations for the wedding; the wedding cards were distributed and the wedding hall was booked by February.
Unfortunately they were not aware that the COVID-19 pandemic would get so bad that it would have such a huge impact on their dream wedding. Dubai soon went into complete lock down with malls, hotels, restaurants and schools all shut.
“As the days were passing, instead of being excited for the wedding, we were getting over stressed,” Farwa said.
They waited, expecting the lockdown to be lifted soon but their dreams and plans were getting shattered day by day.
Finally in April they took the most heartbreaking decision of advancing the wedding to an unannounced day since they did not know when the pandemic would settle.
However, in May the tables turned when they decided to turn the negative situation in front of them into a positive one by advancing the wedding back to the original date.
Their wedding day ended up being completely different than anything they had ever imagined or planned. They started the wedding preparations all over again as the lock down was eased.
They shopped for their wedding clothes and jewelry in less than a week and did a majority of their shopping online.
Eventually the happy couple finally got married. The wedding ceremony took place at their house and only immediate family members were present. Everybody wore masks and no hugs or handshakes were exchanged.Disposable cutlery was used and sanitizers were available everywhere.
“It was definitely nothing like what we had ever imagined, but ended up being the most special day of our lives,” they said.
