Dubai Police Thwarts Region’s BIGGEST Smuggling Attempt Worth AED500 Million
The Dubai Police recently foiled a smuggling attempt of 500 kilos of pure cocaine into the country in an operation dubbed ‘Scorpion.’ The drugs were well-hidden within the structure of a shipping container, having a street value of more than AED500 million ($136 million)!
The operation is the greatest narcotics seizure in the region, according to the Dubai Police. The drug bust has led to the arrest of a Middle Eastern gang member who was acting as a middleman for an international drug cartel within the country.
Coming to how they did it, press releases and a video accompanying the drug bust shed light on it.
The police received a tipoff of large amounts of pure cocaine being transported in a cargo container with the help of a Middle Eastern accomplice. The police forms an investigative unit and start monitoring the suspect. The suspect frequents a warehouse and goes to a shop to buy cutting tools.
He then unloads the container and stocks it in a warehouse in another emirate.
The police catch the suspect red-handed and open the container in his presence. Lo and behold, narcotics worth AED500 million were found in the container.
