7 Armed Americans Travelling By Private Plane To Afghanistan Were Detained In Dubai

7 ‘armed’ American civilians who were reportedly on their way to Afghanistan to assist in evacuation efforts have been arrested in Dubai.

The vigilante group’s aim was to arrive in Afghanistan and privately assist the people fleeing the country after the takeover by the conservative Taliban regime, ahead of the official evacuation deadline finish date, August 31. However, their mission was thwarted and arrests were made, for illegally carrying firearms on a private plane.

The group was arrested on August 31, according to an exclusive post by News Week. They were detained but have since been released on bail by the police, the story was confirmed by the US State Department who declined to add more information due to privacy concerns.

A spokesperson for the American state department confirmed the incident

“We are aware of reports of U.S. citizens detained and then released in Dubai.”

The UAE is assisting the effort, and 9,000 evacuees are taking shelter in Humanitarian City, Dubai before moving to a third country.

The UAE evacuation effort has been commended by the US for fast action and support.

H.H.
