A British man has been jailed for three months and fined AED2,000 for drinking alcohol and disorderly behaviour before he took his return flight to Birmingham, UK this summer.
The 37-year-old verbally threatened both a police officer and Emirates airline employees and assaulted the police officer.
The man told courts he had been drinking for four hours before he arrived at the airport and could not remember the incident, according to local reports.
The confrontation began when the tourist complained that the pre-flight wait was too long. He cursed at staff and flicked his middle finger at an Emirates employee. When an officer approached him, the man allegedly stepped on the officer’s foot and shoved him.
He told airline employees he was a British citizen and threatened he could have the staff fired.
The man told courts he could not remember the incident.
He’s been served a three month sentence and will be deported following the jail-term.
