Recent statements suggest Careem will NOT be bought out by Uber.
Despite continuous rumours of a takeover bid of the international ride-hailing app, an Arabian Business report suggests Careem will remain independent.
Careem’s co-founder Magnus Olsson who works on product and tech stated there HAS been interest from outside parties, however for Careem to continue its mission, ‘to simplify the lives of people in the region’ the company would need to stay independent.
The comments were made at a Startup Battlefield MENA in Beirut this week.
Careem, the huge Dubai success story which has grown to over 100 cities in the MENA and South Asian region and Uber the international ride-sharing app of choice, with a stronghold in 785 cities worldwide.
A complete takeover by Uber or a combined ownership was reportedly on the cards with suggested figures of $2 billion to $2.5 billion thrown about.
