Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced in a series of tweets on Sunday that it would implement 100% automation of drivers’ tests through the Smart Yard project.
What’s the Smart Yard project, you wonder?
It’ll basically change the way that driving tests are conducted in Dubai, in terms of method. New tech will be applied in each vehicle, like cameras and sensors as opposed to just having an examiner base your skills by being seated beside you.
…perhaps they realised that having an examiner physically present when taking an exam can be quite daunting (for some of us.)
The process will use cameras and sensors fitted to the cars while examiners determine the drivers’ skills in the five-manoeuvre test.
This will either result in a pass or fail, depending on the approved testing standards.

This new Smart Project also means more people can take the driving exams, instead of staying in a waiting list.
Efficiency at its finest, people!
