BREAKING: A US-Made COVID-19 Vaccine Is 90% Effective
Pharmaceutical company Pfizer and biotechnology company BioNTech just announced that a vaccine they co-created is 90% effective and has been described as the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ by Pfizer Chairman and CEO Dr. Albert Bourla.
An external Data Committee, which supervises clinical trials to ensure safety, found the vaccine to be 90% effective.
The vaccine still requires further data before it’s approved, which will be available by the third week of November, therefore it is not available to the public yet. If approved for wider use in the population, two doses of this vaccine are needed and COVID protection is achieved after 28 days.

This is a first but critical step by Pfizer to deliver a safe and effective vaccine
I am happy to share with you that Pfizer and our collaborator, BioNTech, announced positive efficacy results from our Phase 3, late-stage study of our potential COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine candidate was found to be more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 in participants without evidence of prior SARS-CoV-2 infection in the first interim efficacy analysis.
The results demonstrate that our mRNA-based vaccine can help prevent COVID-19 in the majority of people who receive it. This means we are one step closer to potentially providing people around the world with a much-needed breakthrough to help bring an end to this global pandemic.
Pfizer cannot apply for FDA approval (the national body for food and drug administration in the US) for the vaccine until further data is collected – this means the vaccine is still not ready to be distributed to the public
