Two Dubai Police men are themselves standing trial following their attempt to rob a large amount of money and a phone from the driver of a Porsche Cayenne.
The robbery was a calculated plan involving the two police officers, a 23-year-old from Sudan and a 31-year-old Emirati and the help of one another, a Sudanese man who was acting as a translator for the victim.
The three men planned the theft and duped the victim, a 31-year-old Chinese man.
The Sudanese translator met the victim in a club and they left together driving to a hotel, when they were stopped by the offending police officer.
According to a report from the National, one police officer immediately grabbed his phone while the other took him to the patrol car. They asked him for AED27,000 to ‘solve’ the problem.
The officers drove then drove the man around for ten minutes in their patrol car, and threatened him with jail time. The victim offered them the AED 3,000 cash he had on him.
The translator, who was driving behind them in the Porsche, then demanded AED 17,000. They proceeded to bring the victim to International City, searched him, took his ATM card and fled the scene.
The victim reported the incident the following morning.
Only one of the officers was present and he denied the charges. The translator denied playing a part in the robbery.
