The UAE Confirms Its First Case Of The Omicron Variant

The Ministry of Health and Community Protection (MOHAP) just announced the first case of the new variant “Omicron” in an African patient in the UAE.

It was confirmed that she was transitting through an Arab country and had received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine. The woman who has been infected is now in isolation and her condition is being monitored as no symptoms are present.

Those who were in contact with her have also been isolated, according to WAM.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention also affirmed that the UAE Health Sector is fully prepared to tackle various COVID-19 variants

The Ministry will tackle all variants through careful assessments and proactive measures through inspection and conduction of all the necessary tests.

It reiterates that the public needs to take the COVID vaccination, including the booster shot, in order to ensure immunity and protection go COVID-19 related fatalities or severe symptoms, especially in ‘light of the emergence of new variants.’

In light of the new variant’s detection, The Ministry of Health and Prevention has updated the Green Pass Protocol for the Al Host App

So from December 5 onwards, the green pass will be active for vaccinated people foe a period of 14 days only, instead of the prior 30 days.

The update, authorities say is a “proactive measure to enhance the efforts made at the country level” as the country addresses the pandemic variants, and ensures safe movement and tourism in the entire country. The new green pass amendment comes after the UAE announced its first Omicron variant detection.

There are six categories of the ‘green’ status on the Al Host app, depending on the completion of your vaccination and the validity of your RT-PCR test result. Previously, all those who have been vaccinated (second dose received more than 28 days before the current date), who got the PCR test results as required, would have the Green Pack active on their app for 30 days before having to undertake another PCR test.

The Green Pass is a means to grant access to certain public areas in the UAE and has been in use throughout COVID-19 protocols in the country.
