In an totally unexpected turn of events, rumours are swirling that the UAE is open to CO-HOSTING the World Cup in 2022, if the Qatar fall-out was resolved.
This is according to UAE sports chief Mohammed Khalfan al-Romaithi via an interview with Reuters on Tuesday.
He stated, “If the problem is solved I think the UAE would welcome the World Cup here, a group or two for example.”
In 2017, the Qatar diplomatic crisis began when four Arab nations including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar amid allegations of terrorism.
According to Reuters, the FIFA President is supporting a proposal which would expand the next World Cup, taking it from 32 teams to 48, encouraging the idea that neighbouring countries could also host matches.
