The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has implemented new rules and regulations in regards to operating drones in the UAE to minimise the chance of any drone-related accidents.
Previously, there have been numerous drone-related incidents which have resulted in the shutting down of the airports in the UAE.
Each minute the airports were closed, it cost the aviation industry US$1 million.
Thus, the establishment of the new laws have been implemented to ensure airport, airplane as well as passenger safety.
The licences will be required to be shown when purchasing a drone, at any store in the UAE.
Alongside licencing regulations – the UAE will also stop importing drones that don’t adhere to specifications for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The Authority for Standarisation and Metrology will also be requiring all drones to have a unique serial number, which will be regulated by surveillance systems, tracking their location.
Imported drones will not be allowed to enter the country if they do not meet the new specifications.
Under the new regulations, drones will also not be allowed to have any video or voice recording characteristics except those used for research, development and security purposes.
