The New UAE-Approved Weight-Loss Pill Will Be More Affordable Than Injectables

Weight-loss treatment in the UAE just got a new twist, and this one skips the needles…

The UAE has become only the second country in the world to approve a new daily weight-loss pill, marking a significant step in tackling obesity. The treatment, called Foundayo, is expected to be available in the Emirates from May 2026 for eligible patients under strict medical supervision.

A new oral option instead of injections

Instead of weekly or monthly injections, this new treatment comes as a once-daily pill. That alone is what’s getting attention. It’s designed as an oral GLP-1 option, meaning it works on the same pathway as popular injectable treatments but without the needles.

Authorities have made it clear though, this isn’t a “quick fix” or lifestyle hack. It will only be available via prescription and under medical supervision.

Who can get it in the UAE?

This isn’t open for anyone looking for cosmetic weight loss. Eligibility is tightly controlled.

Adults with a BMI of 30 or higher can qualify, as well as those with a BMI of 27+ if they already have related health conditions. That includes Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, or joint issues.

Doctors will assess each case before prescribing it, meaning it’s part of a structured treatment plan rather than a free-access medication.

Price talk and why it matters

While the official price hasn’t been confirmed yet, early expectations suggest it will cost less than injectable GLP-1 drugs like Mounjaro and Ozempic, which can range between AED 800 and AED 1,500 per month.

If that holds true, it could make long-term weight management slightly more accessible for patients who currently struggle with the cost of injectables.

Still, experts are stressing the same point again and again: this isn’t replacing lifestyle changes. Diet, movement, and medical guidance still sit at the core of treatment.

A step toward more accessible treatment

The approval also reflects the UAE’s push to bring in advanced global treatments faster, especially those that shift care from invasive methods to more patient-friendly options. It’s less about “miracle pills” and more about expanding tools in a growing obesity challenge.

In short, it’s a new option, NOT a shortcut.
