The UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt have issued a statement following the leaking of documents in regards to the Qatar fall out. 

CNN in America obtained and published contracts signed by the states that were top secret, which the network says gives context to the Qatar fall out. 

The contracts include an agreement, signed in 2013 by the King of Saudi Arabia, the Emir of Qatar and the Emir of Kuwait, to not interfere in other states’ internal affairs: “including barring financial or political support to ‘deviant’ groups, which is used to describe anti-government activist groups,” according to CNN. 

The agreement also mentions not supporting the Muslim Brotherhood – an accusation which has been an ongoing part of the Qatar fall out.

A second document from 2014 leaked, is signed by the three heads of state, as well as HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nayhan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, along with HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the King of Bahrain.

It reportedly mentions the signatories’ agreement to support Egypt’s stability, including “preventing Al Jazeera from being used as a platform for groups or figures challenging the Egyptian government,” according to CNN. 

The documents’ conditions apply to all signatories – not just Qatar. 

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt released the statement as follows: 

“The four countries assert that the documents published by CNN, including the Riyadh Agreement (2013), its Executive Mechanism and the Riyadh Supplementary Agreement (2014), confirm beyond any doubt Qatar’s failure to meet its commitments and its full violation of its pledges.

“The four countries emphasise that the 13 demands submitted to the Qatari government were to fulfill their previous pledges and commitments and that the demands were originally stated in the Riyadh Agreement, its mechanism and the Supplementary Agreement and are fully in line with the spirit of what was agreed upon.”
