The 14th edition of The Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival kicked off yesterday with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, James and Toto performing. Tonight though, folk-legend David Gray is taking centre stage (this is his third time performing at the Dubai Jazz Fest) and we had the privilege of sitting down and having a little bit of banter with him earlier today.

Unfortunately, David expressed that he’s feeling a little under the weather at the moment and has been sick for the last few days. Of course, this called for me to pull out my ‘medical card’ explaining that I was a nurse up until six months ago and our chat got off to a cheeky start with me offering him a little bit of expertise. Acting very much the gent, he politely declined my eager offer of advice and insisted he’s on the road to recovery (woohoo!). Although I was slightly gutted I didn’t get to play nurse with the singer, the intro definitely helped break the ice…Phew.

He went on to speak about almost reaching the ripe old age of 50, and what sort of wisdom he’d like to pass on, how he “doesn’t really think of himself as old”. And how he’s “very lucky’ to have had such “magical experiences” but that he’s had to work hard.

He also made mention of a fond memory: his first ever show in Ireland. It was “love at first site in Ireland” ( we’re pretty sure Ireland feels the same way!) and that it played a big role in his career.  Hear Hear.

David Gray, kicks off at 8pm tonight in the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. If you already have tickets, make sure you don’t miss him – it’s sure to be one heck of a performance!
